The Umwelt Arena Schweiz is an exhibition and event platform for products and services for a modern, ecofriendly lifestyle. Over 100 companies and organisations provide information in 45 exciting exhibitions. A world of experiences for energy and environmental issues – not theoretical, but something to touch, experience and try out.
The spectacular architecture of the Umwelt Arena offers the perfect framework and the ideal setting for company and family events, seminars, trade fairs and conferences. 6 seminar rooms for 20 to 70 people, a conference room for 350 people, Planet Zürcher Kantonalbank (40 people) for drinks or information meetings and the Arena for 2,000 (seated) and up to 4,000 people (standing).Use our exhibition area, our Indoor Track and our tailor-made tours to add value to your events. Benefit from everything being available under one roof. Select your own personal tour or an individual social programme, including test drives on Segways, e-bikes, e-scooters, electric and economical cars for your seminar or your conference. We regularly organise fun information events for eventmanagers. Information in German or Contact form.
The Umwelt Arena offers a large number of guided tours with very different topics. Guided tours take place from Tuesday to Sunday by arrangement. General tours and tours for schools are offered in English if requested.
This tour is offered in German or English and shows how sustainability can be implemented in every area of modern life and how one can even save money as a result.
This tour shows the areas to which there is normally no access for visitors. Which resource-saving materials were used in construction? How is the building operated efficiently and how does the Umwelt Arena produce more energy than it uses? A tour, which will surprise both experts and the general public! (currently only available in German)
An electric car, a fully hybrid or gas vehicle or a petrol or diesel car? Our tour will help you make a decision in the jungle of efficient drive systems (currently only available in German).
Insulate the cellar ceiling or replace the windows? Or even replace the oil central heating with a heat pump? You can find out about the options and challenges when modernising buildings (currently only available in German).
From what is biogas produced? How does kitchen waste become electricity and fuel? When can the sun be used to produce electricity and when heat? You can find the answers to these and many other questions here (currently only available in German).
What does is mean to consume in a sustainable way? What sustainable consumption choices do I have (currently only available in German)?
We offer documentation and teaching material for schools via Kiknet.ch. In addition, one of the guided tours can also be booked for schools. All the material is provided in German (currently only available in German).

As a project of Umwelt Arena Schweiz, the world’s first energy-autarkic apartment building was inaugurated in 2016 in Brütten in the canton of Zurich. The pioneering project sets new standards in future residential construction with its sustainable and sophisticated technology from basement to roof. A tour lasts 1.5h and is for groups up to 14 persons.

The new residential complex in Maennedorf, Switzerland, was built by the Umwelt Arena Schweiz in collaboration with Empa, the University of Applied Sciences in Rapperswil, and the Klimastiftung Schweiz (Swiss Climate Foundation). It meets the demand for low carbon emissions raised by young people already today – including carbon neutral energy production and no costs for electricity or heating for the tenants.

Visit the 300 m long Indoor Track and test the latest electric cars, e-bikes, Segways and pedal go-karts and scooters for kids. Climate-friendly vehicles can be tried out on the test route in the Arena from 14 years of age. For children under the age of 14 go-karts and scooters are available. You can find further information at Reception.
Visit the public Restaurant KLIMA on the ground floor in the Umwelt Arena and experience freshly prepared sustainable catering. Restaurant KLIMA tries to operate its catering as sustainably as possible. Seasonal regional and/or organic products are used whenever possible. Seating for 80 is available indoors and for 40 outdoors. KLIMA offers more than a normal restaurant. It is operated as sustainably as the Umwelt Arena itself. In the garden restaurant guests sit under solar sun umbrellas, at solar tables and can charge their mobile phones or iPads with solar energy at the table itself. Food leftovers go into the bio-rinser, later into the biogas fermenter (for information, see page 66) and in this way help to produce energy. The Restaurant is therefore an active part of the overall exhibition.
In the Shop at Umwelt Arena you can not only discover energy-efficient products for your everyday life. You can also find the right gift to suit every taste. Come and see the product range for yourself. The Shop is open at the normal exhibition times. We look forward to your visit.

Tackling a Revolution in Energy: 16 European countries in 150 days – Visit at Umwelt Arena Schweiz

ZURICH is one of the most sustainable convention destinations in the world, ranking third in the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS) 2019. Climate-neutral excursion activities, hotels with sustainability certification, short distances, and a highly efficient public transportation network: Zurich provides the perfect framework conditions for holding sustainable events.
Walter Schmid, co-owner of W. Schmid AG, a building and general contractor in Glattbrugg, is the initiator and investor in the Umwelt Arena. The environmental pioneer has been dealing with topics related to the environment for over 30 years and was the first person to be involved in Minergie construction and solar vehicles. Walter Schmid is the inventor of the successful „Kompogas“ process (production of CO2-neutral biogas from garden and kitchen waste), which has proved successful throughout the world. In addition to various prizes such as the Environment and Solar Prize, in 2012 he was honoured with the Watt d’Or Swiss Energy Prize by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (special prize awarded by the jury).
Take the train to Killwangen-Spreitenbach station then bus no. 303 (goes every 10 to 15 minutes) to the “Furttalstrasse” stop in Spreitenbach and continue walking in the same direction for 150 m. The Umwelt Arena is on the left.
Please note that there is a different timetable on Sundays and the 303 bus only goes from Dietikon. Coming from Zurich/IC train connections from all directions: travel to Dietikon station then take bus no. 303 (goes every 30 minutes) to Spreitenbach, Shopping Centre. Continue on foot (following the signs to the “Umwelt Arena”). Coming from Baden (region): Take bus no. 2 to Spreitenbach, Shopping Centre (25-minute journey). Continue on foot (following the signs to the “Umwelt Arena”) (five-minute walk).
Alternatively: Take the SBB train no. S12 or S3 to Killwangen-Spreitenbach and then bus no. 2 to Spreitenbach, Shopping Centre. Continue on foot (following the signs to the “Umwelt Arena”) (five-minute walk).
From Zurich/Lucerne: Take the Dietikon/Spreitenbach motorway exit, turn right; at the third set of traffic lights turn right towards Spreitenbach; turn into the “Shoppi-Tivoli-Parkhaus” multi-storey car park then continue straight on and follow the signs.
Take the Spreitenbach/Killwangen motorway exit, turn right; take the 3rd exit at the first roundabout; turn right after 400 m at the next roundabout; turn right after 50 m into your destination.
There are 500 parking spaces in our own underground car park.
